Since July 2008 Jon has been working as a Design Engineer for McLaren F1 Team, and has been fortunate enough to be granted a 1 year sabbatical for 2012. During his year out of work Jon has spent 3 months snowboarding in Canada prior to embarking on an epic 9 month around-the-world motorcycle adventure in aid of Cancer Research.
At the age of 7 Jon began go-karting and realised his passion for motorsport and vehicles. Maintaining and racing his own kart provided good mechanical experience, and would eventually lead him towards a career in Motorsport Engineering.
With his academic success at college and out-going personality Jon was selected for sponsorship by Arrows F1 Team for a Beng degree course in Automotive Engineering at Oxford Brookes University. During his degree Arrows unfortunately folded, but his sponsorship deal was continued by MCT-UK, and upon graduating he immediately began work for the newly established Super Aguri F1 Team. In 2007/08 Jon worked on the Race Team and travelled the globe with the F1 circus, gaining invaluable trackside experience before moving to a factory based role at McLaren Racing.
There is a clear passion for motorcycles ingrained in Jons family history, and before being able to reach the foot pegs he was enjoying the thrill of riding pillion on his fathers collection of bikes. During his childhood he rode motocross, enabling him to develop his off-road riding skills, and since the age of 16 he has owned a series of road bikes.
More recently, in June 2011, Jon embarked on a 2 week motorcycle trip in North India with Peter Foulkes, riding the notorious Manali to Leh highway on Enfield 500 Bullets. This trip gave him his first taste of a real motorcycle adventure, providing them both with a notion for what the round-the-world trip may entail.
